CHASKA TOOK ON ST. FRANCIS IN THE QUARTERFINAL GAME AT THE TARGET CENTER

The Chaska Hawks took on St. Francis in a quarterfinal game of the Girls Minnesota State High School League state tournament at the Target Center.

Both teams came out and played very aggressively.

Both teams went on runs in the first half. Chaska played tough man-to-man defense.

St. Francis is known to make their runs when they can.

With 8:11 left in the first half the score was Chaska 19 and St. Francis 15.

Both of these teams were looking for their points in transition. As both teams looked to push the ball up the court they were looking for transition points.

At half time the score was Chaska 35 and St. Francis 31.

As the second half got underway both teams both teams continued their aggressive play. Neither team backed down.

Chaska pushed the ball up the court and scored in transition. Chaska’s Jordan Falk was able to find her shot in the second half. Most of her shots were made inside the paint.

Chaska tried to pull away midway through the second half, but St. Francis tried to slow them down. Chaska played a 2-3 zone defense in the second half. That seemed to work to slow down St. Francis.

Ellen Degler played well throughout the game for Chaska. She found her open player. Chaska was able to score quick uncontested layups. Chaska out rebounded St. Francis. They went after loose balls and grab more rebounds. Both teams were playing equally aggressively.

Chaska came away with the 76-57 victory over St. Francis.

The leading scores for St. Francis were Jordan Falk with 16 points, Taylor Morell with 14 and Mellissa Borstner with 13 points. The leading scorers Chaska were Brooke Brown with 20, Ellen Degler 19, Brianna Tisch 12 points and Jullia Skeesick with 10 points.

After the game I was able to catch up with Chaska player Brook Brown and head coach Tara Seifert.
