IN THE THIRD QUARTERFINAL GAME IT WAS MAPLE GROVE VS WAYZATA

In the class AAAA quarterfinal game it was Maple Grove taking on Wayzata. Wayzata came out on fire as they were able to open the game with a 7-2 run with 14 minutes left in the first half. But right after that strong start they cooled off.

Maple Grove didn’t shoot the ball well to begin the game. They were taking shots but they were not able to make them.

Maple Grove woke up with 12 minutes remaining in the first half as they were able to go on a run and get back into the game.

The wind changed as Wayzata went cold for a bit. Maple Grove was able to go on a run and they had an 18-9 victory with 9:30 left.

Maple Grove when on a 20-1 run. With 7:22 left the score was Maple Grove 23 and Wayzata 10.

Maple Grove spread out the scoring through everyone on the team. Maple Grove passed the ball around the three point arch as they took their time. Wayzata tried to trap the guards when they were bringing the ball up the court.

At halftime the score was Maple Grove 31 and Wayzata 17. Maple Grove really got balanced scoring from everyone in the first half.

As the second half got underway both teams came out swinging as they both tried to get their shots going.

Maple Grove had a hard time shooting in Wayzata came out on a tear as they went on a run Wayzata went on a 9-0 run to open the second half.

The game got close. Wayzata got the lead at 41-39 with 8:30 left in regulation.

Wayzata picked up the defensive intensity as they really wanted to extend the pressure on Maple Grove.

The game came down to the wire. Both teams were able to on runs throughout the game. Just as one team would go on the run the other team stepped up their defense and was able to slow or stop the other team.

Wayzata was able to come away with the 56-50 victory over Maple Grove. I was able to talk to Wayzata’s head coach Mike Schumacher about the game. I was also able to talk to Wayzata’s Kristi Kuhn about the game.
