IN GIRLS BASKETBALL STATE SEMI FINAL ACTION MINNEAPOLIS DE LASALLE TOOK ON HILL-MURRAY

Minneapolis De LaSalle Islanders took on Hill-Murray in the semi finals of the 2010 Minnesota State High School League state tournament. De LaSalle had a 30-0 record coming into the game and Hill-Murray’s record was 20-10.

De LaSalle looked to set the tempo from start of the game. Hill-Murray looked to apply full court press. Both of these teams planned to play up-tempo.

De LaSalle’s guard Sarina Baker was able to get the ball up the court quickly and get her teammates into the game. She knew where her players were on the court.

Hill-Murray looked to trap the ball at the half court. They used a full court man-to-man defense.

Bethany Dolitte scored the first six points for Hill-Murray. Her teammates kept looking to get her the ball.

Tyseanna Johnson for De LaSalle looked to score. She was able to knock down shots from different spots on the court. She was not afraid to attack the basket.

Baker and Johnson were able to step up and with 8:25 left in the first half they were able to tie the game at 16.
The score went back and forth as each team traded baskets. Neither team played very well on the defensive end.

With 6:00 left in the first half the score was Hill-Murray 23 and De LaSalle 20.

Allina Starr for De LaSalle was able to drive coast-to-coast and make baskets throughout the first half. She had a very quick first step. Star was only a freshman She averaged 8.1 points per game during the regular season.

Hill-Murray went on a run to close out the first half. Tessa Cichy stepped up big as she was able to find the basket from the beginning of the game. She was able to make shots throughout the half. Hill-Murray went on an 18-10 run to end the first half.

At halftime the score was Hill-Murray 34 and De LaSalle 28. The leading scorer for De LaSalle at the half was Sarina Baker with 13 points. For Hill-Murray they were lead in scoring by Tessa Chichy with 17 points.

As the second half got underway De LaSalle continued to keep pushing the ball up the court.

With 14:49 left in regulation the score was Hill-Murray 36 De LaSalle 28.

De LaSalle looked like they came out with more intensity and they were able to go on a run midway through the second half. De LaSalle has been known to score in bunches.

Tessa Cichy kept shooting the ball and they were going in. She was the go-to person for Hill-Murray. On the defensive end she was able to stop her opponent. She played really aggressively the whole game.

Hill-Murray really made De LaSalle pay for their mistakes. After every one of De LaSalle’s miscues, whether it was a loose ball or a defensive rebound, Hill-Murray was able to score on the other end.

Hill-Murray came away with the 61-48 victory over Minneapolis De LaSalle. The leading scorers for De LaSalle were Sarina Baker with 17 points and Allina Starr with 14 points.

The leading scorer for Hill Murray was Tessa Cichy who scored 34 points.

After the game I was able to talk to Hill-Murray’s head coach Erin Herman about the victory. I was also able to catch up with Tessa Cichy.
