The Braham Bombers took on the Minnehaha Redhawks in the girls’ class AA state championship game.
Minnehaha was able to get out to a quick start to begin the game. Braham didn’t get down. They were able to come back and attack as Liz Anderson knocked down a deep three point shot.
Minnehaha’s Katelyn Adams, who is listed as 6-4, posted in the low block. Her teammates looked for her to get the ball into her in the low post.
Braham looked to push the ball up the court whenever they could. They really looked to score in transition.
Minnehaha really did a good job of finding the basket whenever they could. They did a good job of distributing the ball.
Both teams played very aggressively and physical. They did a good job of diving on the floor and going after loose balls. Both teams played very hard throughout the first half.
Minnehaha Academy went on a run late in the first half. Braham was not able to do anything on the offensive end.
At the end of the first half the score was Minnehaha Academy 38 and Braham 18.
As the second half got underway Minnehaha continued to make shots. Minnehaha played a zone defense in the second half. They were really able to shut down Braham on both ends of the court.
Braham woke up and went on a run in the second half. Just as I thought when Braham was going to throw in the towel, they came charging back.
Rachel Hansen did a really good job on both ends of the court. There were people getting knocked all around. Players were very aggressive.
Minnehaha Academy was able to come away with the 64-46 victory and they are the class AA girls’ state basketball state champions.
The leading scorer for Braham was Kelsey Sorenson. The leading scorers for Minnehaha Academy were Rachel Hansen with 22 points and Katelyn Adams with 21 points.
