BENILDE-ST.MARGARET’S TOOK ON SARTELL-ST. STEPHEN’S IN THE SEMIFINAL GAME IN GIRLS STATE BASKETBALL

Benilde-St. Margaret’s took on Sartell St. Stephen’s in the girls state high school league’s class AAA semifinal basketball game.


Both teams really started off playing tough aggressive defense. The score went back and forth as each team was able to knock down shots in the earlygoings.


Benilde started in a zone defense. They played really aggressively. They didn’t let Sartell penetrate into the gaps in the defense. They were also able to get out on the three point shooters and shut them down.


Sartell kept feeding Abbie Whitney who was posted in the low block to look to score. She was able to get shots in the low block and make them.


Benilde fought back. They knew they were in the ball game. They went on a run midway through the first half. Their shots were falling late in first half and Sartell was not able to slow them down.


Both teams played very aggressively. Olivia Antilla played very aggressively she was able to knock down shots throughout the game and played very well on defense for Benilde.


At halftime the score was Benilde-St. Margaret’s 36 and Sartell St. Stephen’s 21.


As the second half got underway Benilde-St. Margaret’s came out swinging as they really put on a shooting clinic. They were able to knock down shots they were putting up.


Benilde pulled away in the second half. They kept the pressure on Sartell though the second half. Itisha Alexander played really hard and aggressively for Benilde.


Benilde was able to really take it to Sartell St. Stephens. Benilde-St.Margaret’s was able to come away with the 69-47 victory.


The leading scorers for Sartell were Haley Guetter with 17 points and Andrea Whitney with 16 points.


The leading scorers for Benilde-St.Margaret’s were Itisha Alexander and Olivia Antilla both with 18 points. Josie Dillon scored 12 points and Khadijah Shumpert scored 10.


After the game I was able to talk to Benilde-St. Margaret’s head coach Bob Loyns. I was also able to talk to players Itisha Alexander and Olivia Antilla
