On Feb. 5, Blaine and Osseo went up against each other
in a boys’ basketball game.
Osseo started the game in a zone defense. They wanted
to make Blaine take deep shots.
Blaine looked to get the ball into the hands of Ben
Scherer. Scherer looked to make layups from the low block.
Osseo’s Marmar Hughes looked to get the ball from
teammate Allen Anderson. Hughes wanted to make layups.
Osseo called a timeout with 13:32 left in the first
half. The score was Blaine 11, Osseo 4.
After a slow start by Osseo they were able to make
mid-range jump shots and layups.
Blaine called a timeout with 8:57 left in the first
half. The score was Blaine 15, Osseo 13.
Osseo came up with steals and were able to make layups
off the steals. Osseo’s J.J. Svac came up with layups and mid-range jump shots.
Osseo’s offense came alive late in the first half.
They settled down and were able to come up with offensive baskets.
Osseo passed the ball around the 3-point line as they
worked it around in the zone defense. Osseo did a good job of penetrating the
zone.
Blaine did a good job of getting the ball down the
floor and looking to score baskets in transition.
At halftime the score was Osseo 29, Blaine 23.
As the second half got underway Blaine kept attacking
the basket as they were able to get everyone involved in the offense.
Osseo’s Allen Anderson did a good job of getting
everyone involved in the offense. He knew where his teammates were supposed to
be on the floor and was able to get them the ball.
Osseo took a lot of time off the clock in the second
half. They passed the ball around the 3-point line. Blaine didn’t come out of
their zone defense.
Blaine battled throughout the game. They were down 6
with just under 45 seconds left in regulation.
Blaine fouled Osseo as they looked for rebounds off
the free throws.
Osseo came away with the 55-43 victory over Blaine.
The leading scorers for Blaine were Sam Gerrety with
10 points, Byron Bynum with 8 points and Zachary Baker with 7 points.
The leading scorers for Osseo were Anderson with 16
points, and Bettie with 11 points.
