MAPLE GROVE WENT UP AGAINST CHAMPLIN PARK IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

Maple Grove went up against Champlin Park went up against each other in a boys’ basketball game on Jan. 20.

Champlin Park looked to push the ball down the floor and score baskets in transition.

Maple Grove looked to get the ball inside to their post players. Maple Grove looked to get the ball into the hands of Reid Nikko. Nikko came up with layups.

Champlin Park’s Jeremy Johnson came up with layups in the half. Johnson came up with mid-range jump shots in the first half.

Maple Grove did a good job of moving the ball down the floor and looking to score baskets in transition.

Johnson was able to get the ball in the lane and make layups.

The score went back and forth throughout the first half.

Champlin Park went to a zone defense that made Maple Grove take deep 3-point baskets.

Champlin Park swung the ball around the 3-point line. They were able to get the ball into guard J.T. Gibson’s hands. Gibson wasn’t afraid to shoot mid-range jump shots or layups either.

Maple Grove got everyone involved in the offense. Maple Grove’s Mitchell Rekstad came up with mid-range jump shots and layups in the first half.

Maple Grove’s Brad Davison was all over the floor on both ends of the floor. He came up with huge shots and rebounds.

Champlin Park’s Theo John came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. The defense had a difficult time slowing him down.

Maple Grove looked to get the ball down the floor and score quick baskets in transition.

Johnson came up with steals and was able to get the ball into the hands of Gibson come up with layups.

Maple Grove called a timeout with 3:03 left in the first half. The score was Maple Grove 30, Champlin Park 26.

Champlin Park did all they could to control the tempo late in the first half. Marty Hill came up with steals and layups late in the first half.

Gibson came up with huge 3-point baskets late in the first half.

The score at halftime was tied at 31.

As the second half got underway Champlin Park continued to get the ball into the hands of John and Gibson. Both came up with huge baskets early.

The defensive pressure by each team made it hard for the other team to get open looks at the basket.

Gibson provide an offensive spark. He came up with layups throughout the second half.  Johnson stepped up big and was able to drain 3-point baskets and layups. John also came up with huge baskets in the second half. Teammate Wright came up with huge mid-range jump shots throughout the game.

The score went back and forth throughout the second half. With just over 4 minutes left in the second half Champlin Park came up with huge baskets and they were able to slow the defense down. Gibson was able to go coast to coast and come up with a layup and gave Champlin Park the lead.

Champlin Park came up with the 73-58 victory over Maple Grove.

The leading scorers for Maple Grove were Pickford with 19 points and Davison with 16 points.

The leading scorers for Champlin Park were Gibson with 20 points, Johnson with 18 points and Wright with 17.
