INDIANA WENT UP AGAINST MINNESOTA IN A WOMEN’S BASKETBALL GAME

On Jan. 18, Indiana took on Minnesota in a women’s basketball game at Williams Arena. Going into the game Indiana had an overall record of 11-6 and was 3-2 in the Big Ten. Minnesota had an overall record of 15-2 and was 4-1 in the Big Ten.

Minnesota looked to set the tempo early on both ends of the floor. Indiana started in a zone defense.

That made Minnesota pass the ball around the 3-point line and take time off the shot clock.

There was a media timeout with 15:46 left in the first half. The score was Indiana 15, Minnesota 7.

Minnesota continued to attack the basket and get everyone involved in the offense.

There was a media timeout with 11:42 left in the first half. The score was Indiana 19, Minnesota 15.

Minnesota moved the ball down the floor well and Shayne Mullaney came up with layups. Minnesota was able to turn Indiana over and was able to score layups off turnovers.

There was a media timeout with 7:04 left in the first half. The score was Indiana 29, Minnesota 25.

Indiana did a good job of getting the ball down the floor and scoring baskets in transition.

Minnesota’s Shae Kelley came up with mid-range jump shots and layups throughout the first half. If Kelley didn’t think that she had a good shot she passed it to one of her teammates for the assist.

Indiana’s Alexis Gassion came up with mid-range jump shots in the first half. The Minnesota defense had a tough time slowing her down as she was able to get to the basket.

There was a media timeout with 1:56 left in the first half. The score was Indiana 36, Minnesota 34.

Indiana’s Larryn Brooks took the ball hard to the basket as she hit layups and mid-range jump shots.

At halftime the score was tied at 36.

Indiana looked to keep the ball moving around the 3-point line as they took a lot of time off the clock.

The score remained close in the second half. Neither team went on a huge run. Indiana continued to take a lot of time off the shot clock.

Minnesota’s Kayla Hirt came up with defensive stops that were huge.

There was a media timeout with 14 minutes left in regulation. The score was Indiana 46, Minnesota 42.

Minnesota was able to score baskets in transition. Minnesota’s Tory Jacobs came off the bench and looked to give Minnesota an offensive prescience.

There was a media timeout with 11:57 left in regulation. The score was Indiana 46, Minnesota 44.

On the defensive end Minnesota used a bunch of different defensive looks in the second half. They were able to slow down the Indiana offense.

Minnesota was able to get the ball into the hands of Kelley who came up with huge baskets from the field throughout the game.

There was a media timeout with 7:44 left in regulation. The score was Indiana 52, Minnesota 50.

The game remained close throughout the second half. There were several ties and lead changes in the second half.

Minnesota did a good job of working the ball around the 3-point line and using the clock to their advantage.

Indiana called a timeout with 4:22 left in regulation. The score was tied at 54.

The game came down to the wire. Neither team gave up easy baskets.

Minnesota did a good job of defending down the stretch. Indiana wasn’t able to get off an uncontested shot.

Wagner came up with huge 3-point shots with just over a minute to go. That gave Minnesota their first lead of the game.

Indiana came down the floor and Anderson hit a layup to give Indiana the lead back. The score continued to go back and forth in the last minute of the game.

Minnesota came away with the 64-61 victory over Indiana.

As a team Indiana shot 27-67 from the field that included going 7-23 from the 3-point line. They were 0-2 from the free throw line. Indiana brought down a total of 30 rebounds 14 of them on the defensive end. They were lead in scoring by Amanda Cahill, and Brooks each with 12 points and Anderson with 10 points.

As a team Minnesota shot 24-48 from the field. That included going 7-16 from behind the 3-point line. They were 10-12 from the free throw line. As a team they brought down a total of 34 rebounds 23 of them on the defensive end. Minnesota was lead in scoring by Kelley with 19 points, Wagner with 13 points and Zahui with 11 points.
