MICHIGAN STATE WENT UP AGAINST MINNESOTA IN A WOMEN’S BASKETBALL GAME

On Feb. 8 Michigan State and Minnesota squared off in a women’s basketball game at Williams Arena.

Minnesota looked to push the ball down the floor and set the tempo early in the game. On the defensive end they started the game switching between man-to-man and zone defense.

There was media timeout with 15:38 left in the first half. The score was Michigan State 7, Minnesota 2.

Michigan State’s Lexi Gussert scored her team’s first 10 points of the game. The Minnesota defense couldn’t slow her down as she was able to make layups and jump shots.

Minnesota struggled to shoot early in the first half. They were not able to hit shots that they put up.

On the defensive end they couldn't stop Gussert.

There was a media timeout with 11:53 left in the first half. The score was Michigan State 15, Minnesota 7.

Minnesota looked to trap Michigan State as they wanted to create turnovers. Minnesota’s Shayne Mullaney came up with 3-point baskets to keep her team in the game.

Minnesota did a good job of attacking the basket. They looked to make mid-range jump shots and layups.

There was a media timeout with 7:48 left in the first half. The score was Michigan State 19, Minnesota 10.

Minnesota’s Kayla Hirt came up with jump shots and layups in the first half. Minnesota looked to get everyone involved in the offense. They did a good job of communicating while they were on the floor.

After a slow start by Minnesota they got their offense going as they were patient on the offensive end.

Minnesota’s Amanda Zahui came up with layups and jump shots from the paint throughout the first half.

There was a media timeout with 3:16 left in the first half. The score was Michigan State 30, Minnesota 23.

Minnesota’s offense came together late in the first half. They were able to make shots that they put up.

The score was tied at 37 at halftime.

As the second half got underway, the score went back and forth.

Michigan State’s Aerial Powers and Guessert continued to come up with baskets in the second half.

Wagner came up with huge baskets. She wasn’t afraid to go after the defenders and drive to the lane.

There was a media timeout with 14:38 left in regulation. The score was tied at 50.

Minnesota continued to move the ball well down the floor and come up with good shots. They were able to share the ball with each other.

There was a media timeout with 11:22 left in regulation. The score was Minnesota 62, Michigan State 54.

Michigan State continued to push the ball down the floor and score baskets in transition.

After a slow start shooting the ball for Minnesota they were able to knock down shots throughout the game. They let the game come to them and didn’t rush their shots.

There was a media timeout with 7:42 left in regulation. The score was Minnesota 74, Michigan State 58.

Minnesota was able to slow down Michigan State after a fast start.

There was a media timeout with 2:59 left in regulation. The score was Minnesota 78, Michigan State 66.

In a close, hard-fought game, Minnesota came away with the 86-79 victory over Michigan State.

The leading scorers for Michigan State were Powers with 31 points, Jankoska with 21 points and Guessert with 20 points.

The leading scorers for Minnesota were Wagner with 25 points, Zahui with 18 points and Kelley with 16 points.
