Hopkins and Robbinsdale Cooper went up against each other in a girls basketball game as part of the Super 60 Basketball Showcase at Brooklyn Center high school.
Hopkins started the game out in zone defense. They wanted to spread the Cooper offense out and force them to take long shots.
Cooper’s Alasha Sutton brought the ball down the court. She did a good job of calling out plays that she wanted to run. Cooper swung the ball around the three-point line.
Hopkins applied a full court press that made it taxing on the Cooper guards as they brought the ball down the floor.
Hopkins applied a trap at mid court and was able to get steals out of the trap. They were able to get the ball into the hands of T’Aire Starks who came up with layups.
Cooper had a difficult time hitting shots in the first half. The Hopkins pressure really bothered them.
Cooper called a timeout with 10:47 left in the first half. The score was Hopkins 21, Cooper 4.
Cooper struggled to shoot the ball throughout the first half. Hopkins was quicker than Cooper.
Hopkins Liz Bulver found her shot in the paint. She did a good job of calling for the ball and was able to hit shots throughout the first half.
At halftime the score was Hopkins 58, Cooper 19.
Hopkins continued to make shots throughout the second half. Hopkins was able get the ball into the hands of Jazmyn Martin and Ashley Bates. They were able to continually make mid-range jump shots and layups throughout the game.
Cooper struggled to shoot the ball throughout the whole game.
Hopkins came away with the 84-40 victory over Cooper. The leading scorer for Hopkins was Martin with 16 points and for Cooper they were lead in scoring by Johnson with 8 points.
