OAKLAND WENT UP AGAINST THE UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA IN A WOMENS BASKETBALL GAME

Oakland and the University of Minnesota womens basketball teams went up against each other in a non-conference basketball game at Williams Arena. Going into the game Oakland had a record of 4-7, while Minnesota had a record of 10-3.

Both teams started out in a zone defense. Minnesota looked to push the ball from the start. They did a good job of swinging the ball around the three-point line looking for their shots.

There was a media timeout with 15:43 left in the first half. The score was Minnesota 8, Oakland 5.

Oakland attacked the basket as everyone on the team touched the ball on the offensive end. Oakland took a lot of time off the shot clock running their offense.

Neither team went on a big run in the first half. The defense that Minnesota applied made it difficult for Oakland to get shots off.

There was a media timeout with 7:54 left in the first half. The score was Minnesota 20, Oakland 15.

Minnesota switched between man-to-man and zone defenses late in the first half. That caused
Oakland a lot of trouble. Oakland wasn’t able to adjust on the offensive end when Minnesota switched up on defense.

Minnesota’s Amanda Zahui stepped up and was able to knock down some big shots in the first half. Her teammates did a good job of getting her the ball in spots where she could shoot it. She was not afraid to shoot the ball from anywhere on the court.

There was a media timeout with 3:50 left in the first half. The score was Minnesota 29, Oakland 17.

Oakland stepped up the defensive pressure late in the first half. Minnesota had to keep working for shots that they put up.

At halftime the score was Minnesota 39, Oakland 20.

As the second half got underway Minnesota continued to make shots that they put up on the offensive end. On defense they really were able to put the clamps down the Oakland offense.

Oakland’s Kim Bee did however try to shoot the ball over the Minnesota defenders but she had a difficult time making shots that she put up.

Oakland on the offensive end really had trouble moving the ball around the perimeter, and when they did try to get the ball inside the taller Minnesota post players were able to block shots.

There was a media timeout with 15:59 left in to go in the game. The score was Minnesota 48, Oakland 25.

Minnesota continued to get the ball into the hands of Micaella Riche and Zahui in the second half.

There was a media timeout with 11:55 left in regulation. The score was Minnesota 54, Oakland 25.

Oakland continued to struggle to shoot the ball in the second half. The Minnesota defense was too much for Oakland.

Zahui played extremely well throughout the game. She was all over the floor on both ends of the court. She was able to score on the offensive end and defend well on the defensive end.

There was a media timeout with 7:35 left in regulation. The score was Minnesota 62, Oakland 27.

Minnesota was firing on all cylinders throughout the game. They got up big early in the game and kept the offensive attack going throughout the game. Oakland played well throughout the game but they didn’t have an answer to the physical nature that Minnesota played with.
