Washburn and Waseca went up against each other in a boys basketball game. Washburn looked to move the ball around the three-point line as they looked to get into an offensive shooting rhythm.
Washburn’s Evan Shepherd took the ball hard to the basket and came up with some good looks at the basket. He was able to hit his shot that he put up.
Waseca took the ball hard to the basket. They also did a good job of getting everyone involved in the offense. Waseca’s Nick Dufault made his jump shots.
Both teams dove on the floor after loose balls. There were many jump balls in the first half.
Washburn’s Jeff Jones was able to slow down his man on the defensive end. He came up with some big stops on the defensive end.
The score went back and forth midway through the first half. Neither team went on a run.
Waseca’s Isaac Highum stepped up and knocked down jump shots. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball in spots where he could shoot it.
There were several ties and lead changes in the first half.
Waseca’s Thomas O’Neil found his shot in the first half. He stepped up and got the ball as he made hard cuts to the basket.
In a defensive battled first half the score at halftime was Washburn 34, Waseca 32.
The second half start out as aggressively as the first half ended. Both teams did a good job of attacking the basket and looking for their shots.
Waseca switched between man-to-man and zone defense throughout the second half. They wanted to confuse Washburn on the offensive end.
Waseca called a timeout with 14:58 left in regulation. The score was Washburn 45, Waseca 40.
Powell took the ball hard to the basket. He was not afraid of contact when he went in for layups.
Washburn called a timeout with 12:13 left in regulation. The score was Waseca 50, Washburn 49.
Washburn looked to get the ball into the hands of Charlie Irmiger. Irmiger was camped out on the low block as he called for the ball.
Shepherd continued to come up with some big baskets late in the game.
Washburn took a lot of time off the clock late in the contest as they swung the ball around the three-point line.
The score was tied at 73 at the end of regulation.
Jones fouled out with 3:48 left in overtime. The score continued to go back and forth in the overtime period.
Waseca came up with some big shots in the overtime period.
Waseca came away with the 88-78 victory over Washburn. The leading scorers for Waseca were Dufault with 22 points and O’Neil with 16 points.
The leading scorers for Washburn were Shepherd with 35 points and Gleason with 15 points.
