HOPKINS TOOK ON ST. PAUL JOHNSON IN A BASKETBALL GAME

Hopkins and St. Paul Johnson went up against each other in a basketball game at Augsburg College.
 
Both teams pushed the ball down the floor early as they each looked to score baskets in transition.
 
Hopkins came out a little cold as they were not able to get their offense together early. The St. Paul Johnson defense made it difficult for Hopkins to get their offense going.
 
Hopkins did settle down after a rusty start. Hopkins’ Amir Coffey was all over the floor. He looked to take the ball hard to the basket as he looked to get layups.
 
St. Paul Johnson looked to get the ball into the hands of Jalen Mobley. Mobley was able to get to the basket and make his jump shots.  He was not afraid to shoot the ball from anywhere on the court.
 
The St. Paul Johnson offense came to life midway through the first half. The St. Paul Johnson players seemed that they found their confidence in their shot at that point.
 
Hopkins Stephon Sharp had good court awareness. He knew where his teammates were on the floor and was able to let his players know where they were supposed to be on the offensive end of the floor.
 
Hopkins was able to score baskets in transition. They did a good job of getting back on offense and creating steals and scoring on them. Kamali Chambers took the ball hard to the basket. He was not afraid to shoot layups or jump shots. His teammates did a good job getting him the ball in spots where he could shoot the ball.
 
The game was very physical in the first half. Both teams dove on the floor after loose balls and went hard after rebounds on both ends of the court.
 
At halftime the score was Hopkins 43, St. Paul Johnson 39.
 
The second half got off to a quick start as St. Paul Johnson looked to set the tempo early. They continued to look to get the ball into the hands of Mobley.
 
St. Paul Johnson came out of fire to start the second half. They were able to get the ball into the basket and take the energy away from Hopkins.
 
The score went back and forth to start the second half. St. Paul Johnson’s Peirre Conwell drove through the Hopkins defenders as he was able to score baskets on layups.
 
The score went back and forth midway through the second half.  Johnson looked like that had more energy in the second half. They weren’t afraid to attack the basket and they were able to hit their shots that they put up.
 
Mobley wasn’t afraid of contact when he drove to the basket. He was able to get to the free throw line and make his free throws.
 
St. Paul Johnson battled hard throughout the game. They could not however get the lead. They made several runs at Hopkins but they were not able to get the lead. In a very fun and entertaining game
 
Hopkins came away with the 78-69 victory over St. Paul Johnson.
 
The leading scorer for St. Paul Johnson was Conwell with 24 points, the leading scorers for Hopkins were Sharp with 18 points, Chambers with 15 points and Wright with 14 points.
