UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA DULUTH TAKES ON CONCORDIA UNIVERSITY IN A WOMENS BASKETBALL GAME

University of Minnesota Duluth went up against Concordia University St. Paul in a womens basketball game. Going into the game UMD had an overall record of 7-3 with a conference record of 4-2. Concordia had an overall record of 9-4 with a conference record of 4-2.
 
Concordia looked to push the ball down the floor as they looked to score baskets in transition.
 
UMD started in a zone defense. They wanted to force Concordia to take longer shots.
 
The score went back and forth early. Neither team went on a run.
 
UMD used a lot of time off the shot clock as they passed the ball around the three-point line. Everyone on the floor touched the ball in their offense.
 
Concordia’s Anika Whitting  and Ameshia Kearney were not afraid to shoot the ball as they shot the ball well early in the game.
 
There was a timeout on the floor with 14:45 left in the first half. The score was Concordia 11, UMD 10.
 
Neither team went on a run.
 
Kearney continued to drive to the basket and make her shots. The defense had trouble slowing her down.
 
The score went back and forth throughout the first half. Neither team was able to go on a run because of the stingy defense each team played.
 
There was a media timeout with 8:27 left in the first half. The score was UMD 24, Concordia 22.
 
Concordia continued to take a lot of time off of the shot clock in the first half. They swung the ball around the three-point line to look for shots that they wanted to take. Concordia was successful at doing that.
 
Kearney wasn’t afraid to shoot the ball as her teammates did a good job of getting her the ball in spots where she could shoot it.
 
UMD called a timeout with 4:35 left in the first half. The score was Concordia 32, UMD 28.
 
Concordia continued to play tough man-to-man defense as they made it difficult for UMD to shoot late in the first half.
 
At halftime the score was Concordia St. Paul 49, UMD 37.
 
As the second half got underway Concordia continued to push the ball down the floor as they continued to score baskets in transition.
 
UMD continued to struggle to shoot the ball early in the first half.  They kept up a fast pace of the game. That seemed to favor Concordia as they were able to score on fast breaks.
 
UMD called a timeout with 15:51 left in regulation. The score was Concordia 58, UMD 41.
 
Concordia’s Rachel Hansen knew where her teammates were on the floor. If she thought she could hit from long distance she wasn’t afraid to shoot it.
 
There was a timeout with 14:37 left in regulation. The score was Concordia 62, UMD 43.
 
Concordia continued to attack the basket and make shots in the second half. They were able to get past the UMD defenders.
 
There was a media timeout with 9:50 left in regulation. The score was Concordia 71, UMD 50.
 
Hansen continued to get to the basket and make she shots in the second half.  Neither team gave up down the stretch. They both played hard throughout the game.
 
Concordia called a timeout with 6:19 left in regulation. The score was Concordia 77, UMD 54.
 
Concordia took time off the clock as they wanted to take as much time off the clock as they could.  
 
There was a media timeout with 3:23 left in regulation. The score was Concordia 86, UMD 57.
 
Both teams continued to look for their shots late in the second half. Concordia came away with the 95-63 victory over UMD.
 
As a team UMD shot 24-61 from the field that included going 6-16 from behind the three-point line. UMD shot 9-15 from the free throw line. They brought down a total of 38 rebounds 26 of them on the defensive end. They were led in scoring by Hannah Rutten with 14 points and Katrina Newman 10 points.
 
As a team Concordia shot 35-68 from the field that included going 9-21 from behind the three-point line. Concordia shot 16-21 from the free throw line. They brought down a total of 40 rebounds 29 of them on the defensive end. They were led in scoring by Kearney with 23 points and Hansen with 20 points.
