MINNEAPOLIS WASHBURN WENT UP AGAINST NEW RICHLAND-HARTLAND-ELLENDALE-GENEVA HIGH SCHOOL IN A GIRLS BASKETBALL GAME

Minneapolis Washburn and New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva High School (NRHEG) went up against each other in a girls basketball game.
 
NRHEG started the game off in a zone defense. Washburn started off in a man-to-man defense.
 
Washburn’s Chase Coley took the ball hard to the basket. Her teammates did a good job of getting her the ball. She was not afraid to shoot the ball from anywhere on the court.
 
NRHEG’s Carlie Wagner was not afraid to shoot the ball from anywhere on the court. Her teammates did a good job of getting her the ball in spots where she could shoot it.
 
The score went back and forth early in the game. Neither team went on a run early in the game.
 
NRHEG looked to trap the ball and make Washburn turn it over on the traps. Washburn was able to beat the trap as they were able to get the ball down the floor quickly.
 
NRHEG did a good job of passing the ball around the three-point line as they wanted to get everyone involved in the offense.
 
NRHEG’s Maddie Wagner and Paige Overgaard were able to get their shots to drop in the first half. Their teammates did a good job of getting them the ball.
 
Washburn called a timeout with 8:44 left in the first half. The score was NRHEG 20, Washburn 15.
 
NRHEG was able to make fast break layups. Washburn however was able to run with NRHEG.
 
The Washburn offense went into a stall as they were not able to hit shots for a period of time in the first half. NRHEG was able to hit shots that they did put up however.
 
Washburn called a timeout with 4:40 left in the first half. The score was NRHEG 32, Washburn 16.
 
NRHEG continued to attack the basket late in the first half. Carlie Wagner continued to hit her shots.
 
At halftime the score was NRHEG 39, Washburn 25.
 
At the halftime break the leading scorer for NRHEG was Carlie Wagner with 15 points. The leading scorer for Washburn was Coley with 14 points.
 
The second half for underway and Washburn continued to look to get the ball into the hands of Coley.
 
Washburn’s Natalie Holdahl was all over the floor. She did a good job of calling for the ball and was able to knock down jump shots.
 
Carlie Wagner came up with some deep three-point shots to keep her team in the game. She picked up her third foul midway through the second half.
 
Washburn continued to look for Coley to come up with baskets in the second half. She was able to do that as NRHEG had a difficult time slowing her down.
 
Washburn attacked the basket aggressively late in the contest. They were able to come up with some big baskets.
 
Washburn called a timeout with 8:48 left to go in the second half. The score was NRHEG 60, Washburn 52.
 
Washburn went to a full court press as they looked to try to force NRHEG to turn the ball over.
 
NRHEG’s Jade Schultz stepped up and was able to knock down some deep three-point shots. She got hot late in the game. Her teammates got her the ball in spots where she could shoot it.
 
NRHEG was too much for Washburn. NRHEG came away with the 87-77 victory over Washburn.
 
The leading scorers for Washburn were Coley with 49 points, Holdahl with 29 points and Renikoff with 11 points. The leading scorers for NRHEG were Carlie Wagner with 34 points, Schultz with 18 points and Maddie Wagner with 16 points.
