UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA-DULUTH WENT UP AGAINST CONCORDIA UNIVERSITY ST. PAUL IN A MENS BASKETBALL GAME

University of Minnesota-Duluth went up against Concordia St. Paul in a mens basketball game.
 
UMD looked to push the ball down the floor early as they looked to score baskets in transition.  
 
Terez VanPelt for Concordia twisted his ankle with 17:43 left in the first half and was treated by the medical staff. He came out of the contest. He did return to the  game.
 
UMD got off to a quick start as they got out to a 7-0 start with 16:33 left in the first half.
 
There was a media timeout with 14:22 left in the first half. The score was UMD 11, Concordia 6.
 
UMD was able to move the ball down the floor well in the first half. They were a little quicker than Concordia.
 
Concordia’s Cordell Smith scored his team’s first eight points. VanPelt re-entered the game with 12:00 left in the first half.
 
There was a media timeout with 9:44 left in the first half. The score was UMD 22, Concordia 10.
 
UMD took a lot of time off the shot clock as they ran mostly a motion offense. They were able to get a shot off before the 35 second clock expired.
 
Shea Mandi came off the bench for Concordia. He added his size on the low block as he was able to bang with UMD’s big men.
 
There was a media timeout with 4:52 left in the first half. The score was UMD 28, Concordia 14.
 
UMD used different defenses in the first half, as they were able to confuse Concordia on the offensive end.
 
Smith continued to shoot the ball well late in the first half.  
 
At halftime the score was UMD 33, Concordia 26.
 
As the second half got underway Concordia came out on fire as they were able to tie the game at 35.
 
There was a media timeout with 16:10 left in regulation. The score was Concordia 39, UMD 35.
 
Crawford continued to come up with big plays for UMD. Crawford was not afraid to take the ball hard to the basket.
 
There was a media timeout with 14:36 left in regulation. The score was Concordia 41, UMD 39.
 
Concordia continued to shoot well in the second half.
 
UMD called a timeout with 13:35 left in regulation. The score was Concordia 45, UMD 39.
 
Concordia turned up their energy in the second half. They were able to hit shots that they took on the
offensive end.
 
The score went back and forth throughout the second half. Neither team went on a run.
 
There was a media timeout with 9:25 left in regulation. The score was Concordia 51, UMD 47.
 
Concordia took a lot of time off the clock in the second half as they swung the ball around the three-point line.
 
The score remained close in the second half. Neither team went on a run.
 
The score at the final media timeout with 4:40 left in regulation was Concordia 58, UMD 51.
 
UMD played hard throughout the contest. They didn’t give up any easy baskets late in the contest.
 
VanPelt continued to come up with big shots late in the contest.
 
In a hard fought game Concordia came away with the 69-60 victory over UMD. As a team UMD shot 19-65 from the field that included going 4-18 from behind the three-point line. They were 18-24 from the free throw line. UMD brought down a total of 42 rebounds 31 on the defensive end. UMD was lead in scoring by Crawford with 19 points, Zoelle and Reetz each with 15 points.
 
As a team Concordia shot 22-65 from the field that included going 9-28 from behind the three-point line. They were 16-23 from the free throw line. Concordia brought down a total of 53 rebounds 38 on the defensive end. Concordia was lead in scoring by VanPelt with 24 points, and Smith with 16 points.
