WAYZATA WENT UP AGAINST ST. PAUL JOHNSON IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME


On Dec. 29, Wayzata and St. Paul Johnson went up against each other in a boys’ basketball game.

Both teams started out in zone defense. Wayzata was able to push the ball down the floor and looked to push the ball down the floor in transition.

Wayzata did a good job of scoring baskets in transition. They swung the ball around the 3-point line and was able to get everyone involved in the offense.

Johnson was able to score baskets in transition. They looked to beat Wayzata down the floor and beat them to the basket.

Johnson came up with fast break layups. Johnson was able to the ball around the 3-point line and take time off the clock as they looked for their shots.

Johnson’s Jalen Mobley came up with layups in the first half. If he thought that he could beat his man off the dribble he would look to make layups. Mobley was also able to make mid-range jump shots.

If Mobley wasn’t open he was able to get the ball into the hands of Savion Benton and Savon Parker both were able to make shots that they put up.

Wayzata called a timeout with 5:35 left in the first half. The score was Johnson 29, Wayzata 25.

Johnson was able to come up with layups off of Wayzata’s turnovers. Mobley called for the ball and was able to get himself open and he took it hard to the basket for layups.

At halftime the score was Johnson 40, Wayzata 30.

As the second half got underway Johnson counted to push the ball down the floor, as they looked to score layups.

Wayzata did a good job of passing the ball to each other. They didn’t rush their shots. Wayzata made Johnson guard them.

Johnson stepped up their defensive pressure. They were able to make it difficult for Wayzata to hit shots that they put up.

Johnson was able to trap Wayzata and come up with steals. Mobley continued to get to the basket and make mid-range jump shots and layups.

Wayzata stated in a zone defense for most of the second half. They wanted to keep spreading the Johnson offense out and force them to take deep shots.

Wayzata’s Johnny Beninga and Jack Sowada both came up with big shots for their team. The defense had a hard time slowing them down on offense.

Johnson was able to come up with layups in the second half. They were able to slow down Wayzata’s offense.

Johnson called a timeout with 6:20 left in regulation. The score was Johnson 64, Wayzata 47.

Mobley fouled out with just under 6 minutes left in regulation. He received a personal foul and a technical foul for his fourth and fifth fouls.

Wayzata went on an 11-1 run after Mobley fouled out.

Johnson called a timeout with 3:48 left in regulation. The score was Johnson 65, Wayzata 58.

Both teams dove on the floor after loose balls. There were many jump balls late in regulation.

Wayzata attacked the basket late in the game and was able to come up with layups and jump shots down the stretch.

Johnson came away with the 77-65 victory over Wayzata.

The leading scorers for Wayzata were Beeninga with 20 points and Sowada with 16 points.

The leading scorers for Johnson were Mobley with 19 points, Elliot with 12 points and Parker with 11 points.
 


CHAMPLIN PARK WENT UP AGAINST APPLE VALLEY IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

Champlin Park and Apple Valley went up against each other in a boys’ basketball game. The score went back and forth early.

Apple Valley’s Brock Bertram was able to come up with rebounds on both ends of the floor.

Champlin Park wasn’t afraid to pull up for deep 3-point baskets. Champlin Park’s Theo John came up with layups on the offensive end.

Champlin Park’s Marty Hill came up with mid-range jump shots.

Apple Valley called a timeout with 9:05 left in the first half. The score was tied at 13.

Champlin Park did a good job of getting everyone involved in the offense. They passed the ball around the 3-point line. They also were able to get the ball inside to John.

Neither team went on a run in the first half.

Apple Valley’s Jordan Bolton was able to score on fade away jump shots.

Camplin Park’s JT Gibson came up with layups. He was also able to come up with 3-point shots in the first half.

Apple Valley called a timeout with 6:06 left in the first half. The score was Champlin Park 25, Apple Valley 18.

Champlin Park passed the ball around the 3-point line as they looked to confuse Apple Valley on the offensive end.

Champlin Park looked to trap Apple Valley near mid court. They were able to turn Apple Valley over and make layups off the steals.

Champlin Park called a timeout with 2:42 left in the first half. The score was Champlin Park 35, Apple Valley 22.

Champlin Park continued to make layups late in the first half.

The score at halftime was Champlin Park 39, Apple Valley 30.

As the second half got underway Apple Valley’s Tre jones came up with mid-range jump shots.

Gibson continued to get to the basket and hit shots. Gibson also was able to step up and drain deep 3-pint up and drain deep 3-point baskets.

John looked to get rebounds on offense and as able to get layups off the rebound. Champlin Park looked to get to the basket and was able to come up with basket.

Apple Valley called a timeout with 10:51 left in regulation. The score was Champlin Park 53, Apple Valley 48.

Gibson got his 1,000th point on a layup with just under 9 minutes to go. Gibson kept on attacking the basket and was able to come up with mid-range jump shots.

Apple Valley continued to keep the defensive pressure on Champlin Park.

Gibson came up with huge baskets down the stretch. The Apple Valley defense had a hard time slowing down Gibson.

Apple Valley made a run late in the game. They attacked the basket as they looked to make layups late.

Champlin Park came away with the 79-74 victory over Apple Valley.

The leading scorer for Apple Valley was Trent Jr. with 23 points.

The leading scorer for Champlin Park was Gibson with 38 points.

ST. CLOUD APOLLO WENT UP AGAINST MONTICELLO IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

St. Cloud Apollo and Monticello went up against each other in a boys’ basketball game. The score went back and forth for a good portion of the first half.

Apollo used mostly man-to-man defense in the first half.

Monticello was able to get the ball into the hands of Matt Todd. Todd was able to come up with mid-range jump shots in the first half.

Neither team went on a run in the first half.

At halftime the score was Monticello 28, St. Cloud Apollo 19.

As the second half got underway Monticello continued to get the ball into the hands of Todd. Todd was all over the floor as he was able to come up with layups and mid-range jump shots.

Apollo continued to struggle to shoot the ball.

Monticello was able to make shots throughout the second half. Todd continued to come up with mid-range jump shots midway through the second half.

Monticello looked to trap St. Cloud Apollo on defense. Monticello was able to come up with layups in transition.

Monticello’s Tyler Frie came up with mid-range jump shots in the second half. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball in spots where he could make it.

Monticello came away with the 61-49 victory over St. Cloud Apollo.  

The leading scorers for Monticello were Todd with 16 points and Frie with 14 points.

The leading scorers for Apollo was Ethan Novacinski with 13 points.


PROVIDENCE ACADEMY WENT UP AGAINST ALBANY IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

Providence Academy and Albany squared off in a boys’ basketball game. The score went back and forth early.  

Albany was able to get the ball into the hands of Nick Reaker. He was able to get to the basket and make layups and jump shots. 

Neither team went on a run in the first half. Both teams played hard on the defensive end making it difficult for the other to get shots off. 

There were multiple ties and lead changes in the first half. 

At halftime the score was Albany 22, Providence 21.

As the second half for underway both teams continued to take their time on the offensive end. 

Albany’s Nick Reaker came up with mid-range jump shots in the second half. Teammate Kyle Birr also came up with baskets in the second half. Joel Kline came up with shots. All three players could shoot the ball from anywhere on the court. Also Nick Reaker and Kenney Weber each were able to come up with mid-range jump shots late in the contest. 

Providence had a difficult time scoring baskets in the second half. They couldn’t get their shots to fall. 

Albany was able to get their shots to fall late in the second half. They were able to come away with the 53-37 victory over Providence.


BIG LAKE WENT UP AGAINST SARTELL-ST. STEPHEN’S IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

Big Lake and Sartell-St. Stephen’s squared off in a boys’ basketball game. Sartell looked to push the ball down the floor and score baskets in transition.

Sartell swung the ball around the 3-point line as they looked to take time off the clock.

Sartell’s Daniel Daffinrud looked to slow down the guy he was guarding. He looked to some up with steals in the first half.

Big Lake called a timeout with 5:13 left in the first half. The score was Sartell 23, Big Lake 14.

Neither team went on a run in the first half.

At halftime the score was Sartell 28, Big Lake 21.

As the second half got underway Sartell continued to come up with mid-range jump shots. Satrell’s Brandon Snoberger and Jacob Lieberg got their shots to fall in the second half.

Sartell’s Brandon Snoberger came up with huge mid-range jump shots and layups throughout the game. He was able to get past his defenders and make shots.

Big Lake struggled to shoot the ball in the second half.

Sartell did a good job of moving the ball around the 3-point line in transition.

Sartell was too much for Big Lake. Sartell was quicker and was able to get to the basket more effectively throughout the game.

Sartell came away with the 64-50 victory over Big Lake.

MAPLE GROVE WENT UP AGAINST ROGERS IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

Maple Grove squared off against Rogers in a boys’ basketball game. The score went back and forth early. 

Maple Grove was able to swing the ball around the 3-point line and was able to get everyone involved in the offense. 

Rogers struggled shooting the ball throughout the first half. 

Rogers called a timeout with 6 minutes left in the first half. The score was Maple Grove 37, Rogers 22. 

Maple Grove’s Mitchell Rekstad came up with mid-range jump shots in the first half. The defense had a hard time slowing him down on offense. 

At halftime the score was Maple Grove 43, Rogers 36. 

Maple Grove’s Reed Nikko came up with layups. The Maple Grove offense went through Nikko’s hands. 

Rogers Cole Murray was able to hit layups and mid-range jump shots in the second half. He did a good job of calling for the ball and his teammates were able to get him the ball in the key where he could hit shots.

Maple Grove’s Mitchell Rekstad, Tywhon Pickford and Nikko all came up with huge jump shots throughout the game. They were all able to hit shots that they put up.

Rogers had a hard time hitting shots throughout the second half. No one could get into a shooting rhythm. Rogers turned the ball over on offense and Maple Grove was able to make layups off the turnovers. 


Maple Grove's defense caused Rogers all kinds of problems. Rogers wasn’t able to make shots and they were not able to get rebounds. Maple Grove was quicker than Rogers. 

Maple Grove came away with the 86-70 victory over Rogers. 

Maple Grove was lead in scoring by Rekstad with 22 points.

Rogers was lead in scoring by Murray with 20 points.

After the game I was able to talk to
Rekstad, and Pickford about the game.

BECKER WENT UP AGAINST ROCORI IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

Becker and Rocori squared off in a boys’ basketball game at St. Cloud State University. Becker used matchup zone defense.

Rocori did a good job of moving the ball down the floor and making layups in transition.

Rocori was able to slow down Becker down on the offensive end.

Rocori’s Austin Overman came up with mid-range jump shots and layups in the first half. The defense had a tough time guarding him.

Becker called a timeout with 2:45 left in the first half. The score was Rocori 28, Becker 19.

Becker’s Michael Veldman came up with deep 3-point shots late in the first half.

At halftime the score was Rocori 30, Becker 27.

As the second half got underway Rocori started out in a zone offense. They were in zone most of the first half.

The score remained close. Neither team went on a run.

Overman continued to come up with shots in the second half. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball in spots where he could shoot it.

The score continued to go back and forth midway through the second half.

Rocori’s  Connor Schoborg  was able to step up and knock down mid-range jump shots in the second half. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball when he could shoot it.

Veldman continued to shoot the ball well in the second half. He was able to come off screens and get to the basket.

Rocori’s Dereck Thompson came up with fast break layups in the second half. Thompson was also able to come up with defensive rebounds and get the ball to his guards

Veldman came up with some huge shots throughout the game. He stepped up and was able to hit mid-range jump shots and layups throughout.

The score was tied at 61 with 1:41 left in regulation.  

Thompson came up with a layup for the victory.

Rocori came away with the 64-62 victory over Becker.

The leading scorer for Becker was Veldman with 25 points.

The leading scorer for Rocori was Anderson 19.

After the game I was able to talk to Rocori’s Thompson, Overman and head coach Nate Guetter about the game.

ST. FRANCIS WENT UP AGAINST ROSEVILLE IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

St. Francis and Roseville squared off in a boys’ basketball game on Dec. 27.

The score went back and forth early in the game.

Roseville looked to score baskets in transition. Roseville did a good job of getting everyone involved in the offense.

Both teams shot the ball well throughout the first half. Neither team went on a run.

At halftime the score was Roseville 33, St. Francis 26.

As the second half got underway Roseville continued to move the ball down the floor and score baskets in transition.

The score went back and forth for a period of time in the second half.

St. Francis was able to make mid-range jump shots and layups in the second half.

There were multiple ties and lead changes in the second half.

Roseville’s Kobe Crtchley came up with some huge mid-range jump shots in the second half.

Roseville came away with the 67-60 victory over St. Francis.

The leading score for St. Francis was Robbie Whitney with 16 points.

For Roseville they were lead in scoring by Kobe Critchley had 20 points, Quinn Johnson 14, Mitch
Doss 10, and Jesper Hursted with 9 points.

APPLE VALLEY WENT UP AGAINST MAPLE GROVE IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

Apple Valley and Maple Grove squared off in a boys’ basketball game. Apple Valley did a good job of moving the ball down the floor and making layups in transition.

Apple Valley’s Cameron Kriksey came up came up with mid-range jump shots and layups early.

Maple Grove called a timeout with 14:22 left in the first half. The score was Apple Valley 12, Maple Grove 0.

Maple Grove’s Brad Davison came up with layups. He was able to come up with steals.

Maple Grove used a zone defense as they wanted to spread the Apple Valley offense out.

Maple Grove couldn’t get into a good shooting rhythm early.

Davison kept on calling for the ball as his teammates did a good job of finding him in the lane and getting layups.

Apple Valley called a timeout with 8:26 left in the first half. The score was Apple Valley 23, Maple Grove 15.

Apple Valley looked to score baskets in transition. Apple Valley’s Isaiah Hall came up with mid-range jump-shots in the first half.

Maple Grove had a difficult time shooting the ball in the first half.

Apple Valley was quicker than Maple Grove in the first half.

Apple Valley was able to make fast break layups.

At halftime the score was Apple Valley 44, Maple Grove 32.

Maple Grove looked to make layups early. They attacked the Apple Valley’s defense.

Apple Valley was able to come up with layups throughout the second half.   

Maple Grove was able to come up with some big baskets in the second half.

Apple Valley was too quick for Maple Grove.

Apple Valley came away with the 86-75 victory over Maple Grove.

The leading scorers for Maple Grove were Davison with 21 points, and Nikko with 19 points.

The leading scorers for Apple Valley were Trent with 19 points, Bolton with 18 points and Bertram with 16 points.

After the game I was able to talk to Apple Valley’s Trent and head coach Zach Goring about the game.


SARTELL-ST. STEPHEN WENT UP AGAINST ST. CLOUD APOLLO IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

Sartell and St. Cloud Apollo squared off in a boys’ basketball game. The score went back and forth early. 

Apollo looked to spread the ball around the 3-point line. 

Apollo’s Ethan Novacinski came up with some mid-range jump shots in the first half that kept his team in the game. 


Sartell passed the ball around the 3-point line as they looked to spread the Apollo offense out. Apollo was able to get everyone involved in the offense.

At halftime the score was tied at 21. 

As the second half got underway both teams continued to pass the ball around the 3-point line and take time off the clock as they looked for good shots.

The score went back and forth throughout the second half. Neither team went on a run. 

Novacinski continued to come up with mid-range jump shots and layups in the second half. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball in spots where he could shoot it. 

Both teams were evenly match and they both had difficulty shooting the ball. 

As the overtime got underway both teams continued to push the ball down the floor and attack the basket. 

Apollo continued to look to
get the ball into the hands of Novacinski. He was able to come up with mid-range jump shots late. 


The score did go back and forth throughout the overtime period. 

St. Cloud Apollo was able to come away with the 58-42 victory over Sartell.

ST. FRANCIS WENT UP AGAINST BECKER IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

St. Francis and Becker squared off in a boys’ basketball game. Becker had a difficult time scoring the ball as they struggled to shoot the ball.

St. Francis got out to a quick 22-11 lead with 10 minutes left in the first half.

St. Francis looked to get the ball into the hands of Blake Moreno. Moreno was able to come up with layups in the lane.  


Becker looked to p
ush the ball down the floor and score baskets in transition.

At halftime the score was St. Francis 35, Becker 23.

As the second half got underway St. Francis continued to look to get everyone involved in the offense. 


St. Francis passed the ball around the 3-point line as they were able to get everyone involved n the offense. 


Becker continued to look to push the ball down the floor and sore baskets in transition. St. Francis was quicker than Becker.

Becker looked for shots in their offense. They looked to get shots in the paint.

St. Francis came away with the 74-60 victory over Becker.


ALBANY WENT UP AGAINST MONTICELLO IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

Albany and Monticello squared off in a boys’ basketball game. Albany looked to move the ball down the floor and score baskets in transition.

Monticello’s Tyler Frie came up with some huge mid-range jump shots.

Albany’s Joel Kline came up with layups. The defense had a hard time slowing down Kline.

Neither team went on a run in the first half.

There were several ties and lead changes in the first half.

Monticello was able to set the tempo late in the first half.

At halftime the score was Monticello 32, Albany 28.

As the second half got underway Albany came up with huge baskets.

Albany’s Kenny Weber was able to come up with mid-range jump shots. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball in spots where he could shoot it.

Neither team went on a run early in the second half.

Monticello did a good job of getting everyone involved in the offense. They spread the ball around and did a good job of passing the ball to each other.

Weber got hot late in the contest. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball in spots where he could shoot it.

Albany was able to make shots late in the contest.

Albany came away with the 75-63 victory over Monticello.

The leading scorers for Monticello were Frie with 19 points, and Grathwohl with 11 points.

The leading scorers for Albany were Reaker with 23 points and Weber with 19 points.
