On Dec. 18, Minneapolis North went up against Minneapolis Roosevelt in a boys’ basketball game.
North started the game in a zone defense. Roosevelt passed the ball the 3-point line. Roosevelt also started in a zone defense.
Roosevelt did a good job of moving the ball around the 3 point line.
North’s Ahzerik Rodgers and Tyler Johnson did a good job of bring the ball down the floor and was able to get their teammates into an offensive set. North’s Jamil Jackson took deep 3-point shots what he could make.
Roosevelt took a lot of time off the clock as they passed the ball around the 3-point line. North shifted in their zone so they didn’t give up any easy jump shots.
Roosevelt was able to come up with some steals on the defensive end and then turn them into points on offense.
Roosevelt’s Landon Cobbs was all over the floor on the offensive end. He was able to get his shot to drop. He was able to hit both mid-range jump shots and layups. The Roosevelt players did a good job of getting Cobbs the ball where he could shoot it.
The zone defense that North played made it difficult for Roosevelt to take open shots.
Roosevelt called a timeout with 9:04 left in the first half. The score was Roosevelt 15, North 13.
The score went back and forth after the timeout. North’s ODell Wilson IV came up with steals and layups. On the defensive end Odell Wilson IV was able to force his guy to go a different direction that he didn’t want to go.
North called a timeout with 5:14 left in the first half. The score was Roosevelt 23, North 21.
North was patient on the offensive end. They got everyone involved in the offense. North also did a good job of communicating on the offensive end. North also was able to get the ball into the hands of Isaac Johnson. He came up with some huge layups late in the first half.
North’s Tyler Johnson came up with some defensive rebounds. He was able to get the ball his teammates who looked for shots.
At halftime the score was North 29, Roosevelt 23.
As the second half got underway Roosevelt continued to look to get the ball inside on offense.
North started the second half in a zone defense. Roosevelt really had to swing the ball around the three-point line as they took time off the clock to look to score.
North called a timeout with 15:17 left in regulation. The score was North 31, Roosevelt 24.
North was able to score baskets in transition. They were able to create turnovers and score.
North called a timeout with 12:02 left in regulation. The score was North 40, Roosevelt 32.
North continued to attack the glass as they looked for layups. North’s Isaac Johnson got injured with just under 10 minutes left in regulation. He returned a few minutes later.
Roosevelt go got with just under seven minutes left in regulation. North’s offense sputtered for a bit in the second half. North’s Randy Mathews however got hot late in the game. He came up with some nice jump shots and layups.
North got the lead back late in the second half. Roosevelt didn’t go away. They kept the game close as the score came down to the wire.
North came away with the 61-53 victory over Roosevelt.
The leading scorer for Roosevelt was Cobbs with 22 points.
The leading scorer for North was Tyler Johnson with 23 points.
