LAKEVILLE SOUTH WENT UP AGAINST PRIOR LAKE IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

On December 5 Lakeville South squared off against Prior Lake in a boys’ basketball game. Prior Lake started in a zone defense. They wanted to make Lakeville South make deep shots.

Prior Lake’s Sam Schultze was all over the floor. He was able to call for the ball and come up with layups.

Both teams used a zone defense in the first half.

Prior Lake’s Kevin McKiernan stepped up and was able to knock down deep three-point shots. His teammates knew where McKiernan was on the floor and was able to get them the ball in spots where he could shoot it.

Lakeville South’s Shae Mitchell and Brenon Larson-Gulsvig was all over the floor. They both were able to hit their mid-range jump shots.

Prior Lake’s Devin Mays stepped up and was able to hit deep 3-point baskets. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball in spots where he could get open looks at the basket.

Larson-Gulsvig kept shooting the ball and having success doing that. Prior Lake had a difficult time slowing him down.

At halftime the score was Lakeville South 36, Prior Lake 29.

As the second half got underway Prior Lake looked to get the ball into the hands of Isaiah Sims. Sims took the ball hard to the basket as he was able to make his layups.

Larson-Gulsvig continued to take the ball to the basket and make layups. Prior Lake had a difficult time slowing him down on offense.

Lakeville South called a timeout with 13:31 left in regulation. The score was tied at 38.

There were several ties and lead changes throughout the second half. Neither team went on a run.

Prior Lake passed the ball around the three-point line as Lakeville South was in a zone.

The score remained close throughout the second half.

McKiernan continued to attack the basket. Lakeville South continued to have trouble slowing down McKiernan.

Prior Lake came away with the 66-54 victory over Lakeville South.

The leading scorer for Lakeville South was Larson-Gulsvig with 19 points.

The leading scorers for Prior Lake were Heidecker with 14 points, McKiernan with 13 points and Schultze with 10 points.
