HOLY FAMILY WENT UP AGAINST MINNEAPOLIS NORTH IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

On Dec. 20, Holy Family and Minneapolis North squared off in a boys’ basketball game. North came into the game with an overall record of 8-1. Holy Family came into the game with an overall record of 4-3. 

Holy Family started the game in a zone defense. North swung the ball around the 3-point line as they looked to get Holy Family to shift in the zone. 

North looked to push the ball down the floor and looked to get everyone involved in the offense. North’s Isaac Johnson was all over the floor. On the offensive end Isaac Johnson was able to step up and make 3-point baskets. 

North called a timeout with 15:56 left in the first half. The score was North 5, Holy Family 0.

North was able to score baskets in transition. North’s Jamil Jackson was all over the floor. Jackson was able to come up with deep 3-point baskets. Jackson was able to guard his guy and make him turn the ball over. 

North’s D.J. Hunter came up with layups off of steals. He was quicker than the players that he was guarding.

The zone that Holy Family was playing made it hard for North to make uncontested baskets. Holy Family strung some layups together with just under eight minutes to go. 

North called a timeout with 8:49 left in the first half. The score was North 24, Holy Family 15.

North’s post player Randy Mathews came up with rebounds and was able to get the ball into his guard’s hands.

North’s Tyler Johnson came up mid-range jump shots that kept North in the game. Jamil Jackson was able to make slam dunks. That kept the enthusiasm up.

North got everyone involved on the offensive end. North was able to make back door layups and mid-range jump shots throughout the first half.

Holy Family kept attacking the basket in the first half. Holy Family’s Landon Kimm came up with mid-range jump shots in the first half. Kimm did good job of catching the ball coming off screens and cutting to the basket. 

Hunter came up with big 3-point baskets and layups throughout the game. On the defensive end he came up with steals.

Mathews continued to get the ball to his teammates. Mathews had good court vision as he knew where his man was on defense and where his teammates were on offense.

At halftime the score was North 51, Holy Family 38.

Holy Family’s Jack Mugford came up mid-range jump shots in the second half. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball in the paint where he could shoot it.

Holy Family called a timeout with 15:20 left in regulation. The score was North 53, Holy Family 44.

Holy Family kept attacking the basket in the second half. Holy Family did a good job of getting the ball to post player Justin Dahl who came up with layups in the paint.

North called a timeout with 12:12 left in regulation. The score was North 59, Holy Family 51.

North’s Tyler Johnson continued to come up with layups and mid-range jump shots in the second half.

Kimm continued to come up big in the second half. He called for the ball at the top of the key. Kimm stepped up and was able to hit 3-point baskets and layups consistently in the second half. 

Holy Family kept attacking the basket and hitting their shots. North was able to let the get to the basket.

Holy Family called a timeout with 7:26 left in regulation. The score was North 70, Holy Family 58.

Both teams stalled on the offensive end for a period of time in the second half. Holy Family came up with fast break layups after the timeout. 

Holy Family got hot late in the contest. They kept on getting the ball into the hands of Dahl who came up with layups.

North came away with the 84-78 victory over Holy Family.

The leading scorers for Holy Family were Mugford with 33 points and Dahl with 22 points.

The leading scorers for North Jamil Jackson with 30 points and Tyler Johnson with 16 points.
