Waukee (Ia.) went up against Apple Valley in a boys’ basketball game. Waukee started in a zone defense.
The score went back and forth early. Apple Valley’s Tre Jones was all over the floor. He brought the ball down the floor and was able to get his teammates in the offense.
There were many ties and lead changes throughout the first half.
Waukee’s Trevor Allen was all over the floor. He was able to come up with some huge baskets in the first half.
Both teams were not afraid to shoot the ball.
Apple Valley played a man-to-man and zone defense throughout the first half. Neither team went on a run in the first half.
At halftime the score was Waukee 33, Apple Valley 32.
Apple Valley continued to look to get the ball into the hands of Jones. Jones took the ball hard to the basket. He was able to make layups in transition.
Apple Valley did a good job of using their speed as they were able to get layups in transition.
Waukee’s Anthony Nelson was able to come up with mid-range jump shots. Teammate Michael Jacobson was also able to hit layups and jump shots throughout the game.
Waukee was able to score baskets in transition. They were smart with the ball. They attacked the basket and was able to get everyone involved in the offense.
Apple Valley hung on and came away with the 70-65 victory over Waukee.
The leading scorers for Waukee were Nelson with 26 points and Jacobson with 21 points.
The leading scorers for Apple Valley were Jordan Bolton and Cam Kirksey both with 18 points.
