Minnetonka was the site for the 2014 Breakdown Sports USA Boys’ Basketball Tip-Off Classic. In the first game Patrick Henry squared off against Hill-Murray.
Hill-Murray jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead with 15:50 left in the first half. Hill-Murray did a good job of moving the ball down the floor. They were able to make layups in transition.
Hill-Murray was able to score baskets in transition. Henry was not able to keep up with Hill-Murray in transition.
Henry went to a zone defense with just under six minutes left in the first half. They wanted to force Hill-Murray to take deep 3-point baskets.
Hill-Murray’s Jack Fahey and Simeon Davis were all over the floor. They each were able to come up with huge baskets for Hill-Murray.
After a slow start by Henry they were able to settle down and get into a shooting rhythm. They were more patient on the offensive end.
Henry got hot late in the first half.
At halftime the score was Henry 36, Hill-Murray 35.
As the second half got underway both teams continued to move the ball down the floor and looked to score baskets in transition.
Henry’s Jermal Davis was all over the floor. On the offensive end Davis was able to hit mid-range jump shots. Teammate Jacarius Ford was all over the floor on the offensive end. He came up with some huge baskets.
Henry continued to play a zone defense throughout the second half. Hill-Murray had difficulties at times breaking down the zone.
There were many ties and lead changes throughout the second half. Neither team went on a run early in the second half.
Davis continued to come up with some big layups in the second half. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball in spots where he could shoot it.
The score went back and forth late in the second half. There were many ties and lead changes throughout.
The game was tied at 72 after regulation.
The score remained close throughout the second overtime Hill-Murray’s Simeon Davis hit the game winning shot at the buzzer. Hill-Murray came up with the 83-82 victory over Henry.
The leading scorer for Henry was Ford with 22 points.
The leading scorers for Hill-Murray were Davis with 28 points and Fahey with 27 points.
