MINNEAPOLIS SOUTHWEST WENT UP AGAINST MARANATHA CHRISTIAN ACADEMY IN A BOYS BASKETBALL GAME

On Dec. 15 Minneapolis Southwest and Maranatha Christian Academy squared off in a boys’ basketball game.

Southwest started in a zone defense. Maranatha swung the ball around the 3-point line looking for their shots. They took their time on the offensive end.

Maranatha did a good job of getting the ball down the floor and scoring baskets in transition.

Southwest called a timeout with 15:12 left in the first half. The score was Maranatha 7, Southwest 2.

Southwest’s AJ Ray was all over the floor. On the defensive end Ray was able to slow his man down on the offensive end.

Maranatha’s Damario Armstrong brought the ball down the floor. He was able to get the ball to his teammates for good shots. Armstrong found Jeremiah Hanson who stepped up and was able to knock down 3-point shots in the first half.

Maranatha was able to get the ball down the floor quickly and make fast break layups.

Southwest’s Dakota Fleming also stepped up and knocked down three-point shots.

If Armstrong was open he would step up and knock down deep three-point shots. If Armstrong didn’t think that he had a good shot he knew where his teammates were on the floor and passed him the ball.

Maranatha called a timeout with 6:55 left in the first half. The score was Maranatha 33, Southwest 20.

Southwest guard Keion Alexander was able to make layups and 3-point jump shots in the first half.

Maranatha’s Cameron Monson came up with some huge rebounds for his team. He was also able to come up with layups on the offensive end.

Maranatha called a timeout with 3:03 left in the first half. The score was Maranatha 46, Southwest 33.

Hanson came up with some huge 3-point shots late in the first half. Maranatha continued to make fast-break layups late in the first half.

At halftime the score was Maranatha 55, Southwest 38.

As the second half got underway Maranatha continued to push the ball down the floor and score baskets in transition.

Maranatha came up with some fast-break layups on the offensive end of the floor. Southwest had a difficult time slowing Maranatha down in transition.

Monson, Armstrong, Hanson all continued to look to score the basket and were able to do so throughout the second half. Maranatha’s Jake Meyen also came up with some huge layups early in the second half.

Southwest called a timeout with 13:38 left in regulation. The score was Maranatha 77, Southwest 50.

Maranatha played with the tempo that they wanted to play with in the second half. They didn’t take much time off the clock as they made fast-break layups.

The pace of the game was fast throughout the second half. Both teams did a good job of moving the ball down the floor and looking for layups in transition.

Maranatha called a timeout with 7:31 left in regulation. The score was Maranatha 88, Southwest 65.

Maranatha was too quick for Southwest. Southwest had a difficult time shooting the ball throughout the game. Maranatha did a good job of moving the ball down the floor and getting everyone involved in the offense. Maranatha also did a good job of attacking the basket and making cuts to the basket. They communicated well throughout the game.

Southwest didn’t give up. They fought hard throughout the game. Even though they had a hard time shooting the ball and the defensive pressure was a little much for them at times. They played hard throughout.

Maranatha came away with the 101-87 victory over Southwest.

The leading scorers for Southwest were Alexander with 19 points, Knight with 17 points, Frazier with 16 points and Ray with 12 points.

The leading scorers for Maranatha were Hanson with 33 points and Armstrong with 31 points.
