MINNEAPOLIS WASHBURN WENT UP AGAINST MINNEAPOLIS NORTH IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

Washburn and North went up against each other in a boys’ basketball game on Dec. 9.

Washburn started the game in a zone defense. North did a good job of swinging the ball around the 3-point line in the zone. If one of the North players thought that he had an open shot he wasn’t afraid to shoot the ball.

North’s Jamil Jackson came up with some deep 3-point baskets. If Jackson didn’t think that he had and open shot he wasn’t afraid to pass the ball to his teammates.

Washburn picked up their defensive pressure at half court. North did a good job of getting past the defense and making layups.

North called a timeout with 9:38 left in the first half. The score was Washburn 14, North 13.

North’s Isaac Johnson was all over the floor on the offensive end. He called for the ball and was able to beat his man off the dribble and get to the basket and make layups.

The score went back and forth for a period of time in the first half. Neither team went on a run. Both teams played tough on the defensive end.

North swung the ball around the 3-point line well in the first half. North was able to come up with some big shots late in first half. North’s Tyler Johnson also come up with some huge baskets.

Washburn called a timeout with 3:45 left in the first half. The score was North 29, Washburn 20.

Jackson came up with some slam dunks in the first half that brought the crowd to their feet.

North kept on getting the ball down the floor and was able to come up with baskets in transition.

At halftime the score was North 38, Washburn 25.

As the second half got underway North continued to push the ball down the floor and they got the ball into the hands of Isaac Johnson.

Washburn called a timeout with 13:03 left in regulation. The score was North 52, Washburn 38.

North played mostly man-to-man throughout the second half. That made Washburn have to shoot deep shots.

North’s Jamil Jackson took the ball hard to the basket. He was able to hit mid-range jump shots and layups. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball in spots where he could shoot it.

Teammate Randy Mathews stepped up and really was able to make his shots. He wasn’t afraid to shoot the ball from the paint. North was able to find Mathews as he was cutting to the lane and fed it to him for layups.  

Washburn’s JoBeril Powell took the ball hard to the basket. His teammates were able to

Washburn called a timeout with 3:26 left in the second half. The score was North 79, Washburn 59.

Both teams pushed the ball down the floor late in the game.

North came away with the 89-61 victory over Washburn.

North was quicker than Washburn. Both teams played hard throughout the game.

The leading scores for Washburn were Shepherd with 17, and Powell with 15 points.

The leading scorers for North were Isaac Johnson 22 points, Jamil Jackson with 19, and Tyler Johnson and Matthews each with 16 points.
