Both teams started the game in a zone defense.
Minnesota looked to score layups in transition. Minnesota did a good job of moving the ball down the floor. They swung the ball around the 3-point line and were able to get everyone the ball on offense.
Minnesota center Amanda Zahui came up with rebounds on both ends of the floor. On the offensive end she would looked to make layups from the post.
There was a media timeout with 15:56 left in the first half. The score was Minnesota 9, Central Michigan 5.
Central Michigan’s Jessica Green and Crystal Bradford looked to get to the basket and score on layups and jump shots.
Central Michigan switched to a full court man-to-man defense as they looked to trap the ball.
However Minnesota was able to get by the defense and still make layups.
Central Michigan’s Cassandra Breen also stepped up and knocked down 3-point baskets. Her teammates did a good job of getting her the ball in spots where she could shoot it. If Bradford thought that she could make a 3-pointer she would shoot it.
There was a media timeout with 9:03 left in the first half. The score was Minnesota 24, Central Michigan 23.
Minnesota’s Mikayla Bailey looked to make layups and mid-range jump shots. She would also pass the ball to her teammates as Minnesota looked to take time off of the shot clock in the first half.
Teammate Carlie Wagner came up with some huge shots in the first half.
There was a media timeout with 7:17 left in the first half. The score was Minnesota 26, Central Michigan 26.
Central Michigan did a good job of moving the ball around the 3-point line against the Minnesota zone. If Central Michigan thought that they could get it into their post player Jas’Mine Bracey they would look to get her the ball inside to her. However Bracey had a difficult time finding the basket. She couldn’t get her shot to fall.
Minnesota called a timeout with 4:25 left in the first half. The score was Central Michigan 34, Minnesota 32.
Minnesota had a hard time slowing down Bradford. Bradford was able to get to the basket and make layups.
Minnesota’s Shae Kelley came up with layups late in the first half. Her teammates did a good job of getting her the ball at the top of the key.
At halftime the score was Central Michigan 38, Minnesota 36.
Central Michigan started the second half in a zone defense. Minnesota also started the second half in zone.
Kelley kept on looking to hit 3-point baskets early in the second half.
Bradford came up with some huge shots throughout the second half. Her teammates kept on feeding her the ball and she did a good job of attacking the basket.
There was a media timeout with 15:55 left in regulation. The score was Minnesota 44, Central Michigan 41.
The score went back and forth for a period in the second half. Neither team went on a run. There were several ties and lead changes.
Bradford continued to make deep 3-point baskets in the second half. On the defensive end Bradford was able to slow down the person that she was guarding.
Central Michigan called a timeout with 10:41 left in regulation. The score was Central Michigan 56, Minnesota 55.
Minnesota stayed in their zone defense throughout the second half.
Breen kept Central Michigan in the game. She hit 3-point shots for her team throughout the second half.
There was a timeout with 7:57 left in regulation. The score was Central Michigan 61, Minnesota 55.
Central Michigan continued to push the ball down the floor and swing the ball around the 3-point line. They looked to make a push down the stretch late in the game.
There was a media timeout with 4:21 left in regulation. The score was Central Michigan 63, Minnesota 61.
The score went back and forth late in the contest. Central Michigan was patient on the offensive end.
They however were not able to find the basket as they missed shots down the stretch.
Minnesota came away with the 67-64 victory over Central Michigan.
As a team Central Michigan shot 25-67 from the field that included going 11-35 from behind the 3-point line. They were 3-7 from the free throw line. Central Michigan brought down a total of 40 rebounds 25 of them on the defensive end. They were led in scoring by Bradford with 27 points and Breen with 16 points.
Minnesota shot 25-64 from the field that included going 8-23 from behind the behind the 3-point line. They were 9-11 from the free throw line. Minnesota brought down a total of 44 rebounds 28 of them on the defensive end. They were led in scoring by Zahui with 27 points and Wagner with 13 points.
