BENILDE-ST. MARGARET’S WENT UP AGAINST MINNEAPOLIS DELASALLE IN A GIRLS' BASKETBALL GAME

On Dec. 23 Benilde-St. Margaret’s squared off against Minneapolis DeLaSalle in a girls' basketball game.
 
Both teams started out in zone on the defensive end. Benilde-St. Margaret’s looked to get steals on the defensive end.
 
The score went back and forth early. It took a while for both teams to get into a shooting rhythm.
 
DeLaSalle looked to score layups in transition. They wanted to use their quickness against Benilde-St. Margaret’s.
 
DeLaSalle did a good job of getting everyone involved in the offense. They passed the ball around the three-point line.
 
Benilde-St. Margaret’s Abby Wilgers called for the ball on the low block. Wilgers looked to make score on jump shots and layups.
 
The Benilde-St. Margaret’s offense stalled for a few minutes in the first half. They were not able to make shots that they put up.
 
Benilde-St. Margaret’s didn’t panic when their shots weren't falling. They kept attacking the basket.
 
Benilde-St. Margaret’s Brooke Stanley and Skylar Kosek knocked down three-point baskets in the first half.
 
DeLaSalle called a timeout with 11:06 left in the first half. The score was DeLaSalle 13, Benilde-St. Margaret’s 6.
 
Benilde-St. Margaret’s Aliana Whitfield took mid-range jump shots and layups. If she didn’t think that she could make a good shot she wasn’t afraid to pass it to her teammates.
 
Benilde-St. Margaret’s did look to make fast break attempts which they were successful at making.
 
Neither team went on a huge run in the first half. Both teams dove on the floor after loose balls and went after rebounds.
 
Benilde-St. Margaret’s called a timeout with 7:15 left in the first half. The score was DeLaSalle 15, Benilde-St. Margaret’s 10.
 
DeLaSalle’s Camryn Speese and Aiza Wilson both came up with huge baskets. There teammates did a good job of getting them the ball where they could make shots.
 
The Benilde-St. Margaret’s offense got clicking late in the first half. They started out the game slow but they were able to hit shots down the stretch.
 
The score went back and forth late in the first half.
 
At halftime the score was DeLaSalle 27, Benilde-St. Margaret’s 25.
 
As the second half got underway DeLaSalle continued to push the ball down the floor and make layups.
 
Benilde-St. Margaret’s called a timeout with 15:32 left in regulation. The score was DeLaSalle 32, Benilde-St. Margaret’s 25.         
 
Benilde-St. Margaret’s kept attacking the basket and was able to get everyone involved in the offense throughout the game.
 
Willison was all over the floor in the second half. The defense had a hard time slowing her down as she continued to come up with mid-range jump shots and layups.
 
DeLaSalle head coach Tanysha Scott received a technical foul with 13:07 left in regulation.
 
Benilde-St. Margaret’s called a timeout with 11:21 left in regulation. The score was DeLaSalle 42, Benilde-St. Margaret’s 29.
 
Benilde-St. Margaret’s continued to stay in their zone defense. They did a good job of making DeLaSalle take three-point shots.
 
DeLaSalle called a timeout with 6:22 left in regulation. The score was DeLaSalle 44, Benilde-St. Margaret’s 36.
 
Both teams stepped up their defensive pressure as neither team gave up easy baskets.
 
Benilde-St. Margaret’s called a timeout with 4:39 left in regulation. The score was DeLaSalle 48 Benilde-St. Margaret’s 36.
 
DeLaSalle kept attacking the basket and coming up with layups and jump shots late in the game.
 
They were able to slow down the Benilde-St. Margaret’s offense.
 
DeLaSalle came away with the 64-44 over Benilde-St. Margaret’s.
 
The leading scorer for Benilde-St. Margaret’s were Whitfield with 18 and Stanley with 12 points.
 
The leading scorers for DeLaSalle were Wilson with 26 points and Speese with 18 points.
