MINNEHAHA ACADEMY WENT UP AGAINST ST. CROIX LUTHERAN IN A BOYS' BASKETBALL GAME

On Dec. 1 Minnehaha Academy squared up against St. Croix Lutheran in a boys basketball game.
 
St. Croix looked to set the tempo of the game early. St. Croix looked to create steals and come up with layups off of turnovers.
 
Both teams started in a zone defense. Each team shot 3-pointers early.
 
St. Croix’s Abe Murkey came up with layups. On the defensive end he was able to slow down the guy he was guarding.
 
Minnehaha called a timeout with 14:00 left in the first half. The score was St. Croix 9, Minnehaha 3.
 
Murkey was all over the floor. He came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. The defense had a hard time slowing him down.
 
Minnehaha’s Kaden Johnson came up with 3-point baskets that kept his team in the game.
 
The score went back and forth with just under 9 minutes left in the first half.
 
St. Croix was able to swing the ball around the 3-point line and attack the gaps in the Minnehaha zone.
 
Minnehaha’s Jalen Suggs came up with steals and layups. He played hard on both ends of the court.
 
St. Croix called a timeout with 4:03 left in the first half. The score was Minnehaha 30, St. Croix 29.
 
Minnehaha did a good job of moving the ball down the floor and scoring baskets in transition.
 
Suggs came down and was able to hit deep 3-point baskets.
 
At halftime the score was tied at 43.
 
As the second half got underway St. Croix stayed in their zone defense. Minnehaha also stayed in their zone defense.
 
Murkey came up with a one-handed slam dunk that got his team motivated.
 
Minnehaha called a timeout with 15:41 left in regulation. The score was St. Croix 51, Minnehaha 45.
 
St. Croix’s Trenton Krueger came up with rebounds and put back layups. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball where he could shoot it. Teammate Aage Rovney came up with 3-point baskets as well.
 
St. Croix went on a 19-4 run in the second half.
 
Minnehaha called a timeout with 12:31 left in regulation. The score was St. Croix 62, Minnehaha 47.
 
St. Croix looked to take time off the clock by swinging the ball around the 3-point line. St. Croix looked to get the ball into the low post.
 
Minnehaha continued to move the ball down the floor and attack the basket.
 
St. Croix called a timeout with 6:46 left in regulation. The score was St. Croix 71, Minnehaha 60.
 
The speed of the game picked up as well. St. Croix didn’t take as much time on looking for their shots on the offensive end as they did early in the game.
 
St. Croix called a timeout with 3:16 left in regulation. The score was St. Croix 81, Minnehaha 75.
 
Minnehaha took deep 3-point shots as they stayed in the game and tried to cut down on their deficit.
 
St. Croix came away with the 96-83 victory over Minnehaha.
 
The leading scorers for St. Croix were Murkey with 38 points and Rovney with 27 points.
 
The leading scorer for Minnehaha was Suggs with 26 points.
