HOPKINS WENT UP AGAINST CHAMPLIN PARK IN A BOYS' BASKETBALL GAME

On Dec. 22 Hopkins and Champlin Park squared off in a boys' basketball game. Hopkins came into the game with a record of 8-0 while Champlin Park came into the game with an overall record of 6-0.
 
Champlin Park started the game out in a zone defense. They wanted to force Hopkins to take as many deep 3-point jump shots as they could.
 
Hopkins drove to the basket and attacked the basket and looked to make layups.
 
Champlin Park’s Marcus Hill was all over the floor. He came off the bench and provided an offensive presence.
 
Champlin Park picked up their defense at half court. Once the ball hit half court Hopkins applied pressure.
 
Both teams traded baskets in the early goings of the game. Neither team went on a huge run early.
 
Champlin Park’s Theo John was all over the glass. He came up with rebounds on both ends of the floor.
 
Hopkins Amir Coffey took the ball hard to the basket as he looked to make layups. If Coffey didn’t think that he had a good shoot he wasn’t afraid to pass it to his teammates.
 
Champlin Park called a timeout with 10:23 left in the first half. The score was Hopkins 18, Champlin Park 12.
 
Hopkins was able to come up with fast break layups and jump shots in the first half. They were able to slow Champlin Park down on the offensive end in the first half.
 
Champlin Park struggle to shoot the ball for a period of time in the first half. Hopkins countered the
Champlin Park shooting struggles with layups of their own on the offensive end.
 
Coffey did a good job of getting his teammates involved in the offense. Hopkins took their time on the offensive end. They were also able to come up with fast break layups.
 
Hopkins guard Xavier Johnson came up with mid-range jump shots and layups in the first half. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball where he could shoot it. Teammate guard Vinnie Shahid also came up with layups and mid-range jump shots.
 
Champlin Park’s Chris Davis came up with big shots in the first half that kept his team in the game.
 
On the defensive end Davis also came up with huge stops.
 
Champlin Park’s McKinley Wright IV came up with steals on the defensive end and was able to make layups on the offensive end.
 
At halftime the score was Hopkins 41, Champlin Park 35.
 
As the second half got underway Champlin Park’s McKinley Wright IV got his jump shot and layups going in the second half.
 
Hopkins guard Ishmael El-Amin was all over the floor. On the offensive end he came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball where he could shoot it.
 
Champlin Park struggled to shoot the ball throughout the game. Hopkins was a little bit quicker than
 
Champlin Park was. Hopkins did a good job of attacking the basket and coming up with mid-range jump shots and layups.

Hopkins head coach Ken Novak got a technical foul for arguing a call with 9:26 left in the game.
 
Hopkins called a timeout with 8:11 left in regulation. The score was Hopkins 71, Champlin Park 54.
 
Johnson kept on coming up with layups in the second half. If he didn’t think that he had a good shot, he would pass it off to one of his teammates.
 
Champlin Park’s Marcus Hill was all over the floor. He and Wright came up with huge baskets late in the game.
 
Champlin Park called a timeout with 4:01 left in regulation. The score was Hopkins 86, Champlin Park 71.
 
Champlin Park got their offensive juices flowing late in regulation.
 
Hopkins was just too quick for Champlin Park. Champlin Park has a “young” team this year, as of game day Champlin Park had 13 juniors and 4 seniors on their roster. By comparison Hopkins had 8 juniors and 6 seniors on their roster.
 
Hopkins came away with the 101-82 victory over Champlin Park.
 
The leading scorers for Champlin Park were Wright Iv with 25 points and Hill with 19 points.
 
The leading scorers for Hopkins were El-Amin with 21 points and Shahid also had 21 points.
